Welcome to the Spring & Summer edition of the Dream Views blog. Here I hope to inspire you with some of the info I have gleaned from studying some of my favourite art, designers, influencers, magazines, books, and life lessons. Let's enjoy this journey together.
Florals and bold colours are all the rage again this year! All the colours above are from the Spring & Summer runways. After being indoors a lot and dealing with this pandemic for a couple of years, it is not surprising to be drawn to some colour. Colours can dramatically impact our moods and physical well being. It is not by chance that we are drawn to the most colourful flowers, fruit, and veggies at the grocery store. Our bodies know they are good for us. The same could be said about some bold colours of clothing and home decor. Pops of our favourite colours can instantly elevate our mood. Scarves are the easiest way to perk up an outfit. Pillows perk up a room. Surround yourself with what brings you joy! Whether it is clothing or home decor, we all know what we like.

Colour blocks and monochromatic separates are everywhere. As you can see, pinks, purples, greens blues, and yellows are all the hot summer colours. The more saturation, the better. Wearing one colour from top to bottom or vertical stripes can help those of us vertically challenged (I'm 5'2") to appear a little taller. A jumpsuit can also help you achieve that elongated look with comfort and ease. "Matchy matchy" is trending, so no need to break up the art. Sometimes looking at the trends can give us a little inspiration.
Classic wide legged pants and a good quality tee are must haves. Ours are soft, comfortable and stylish. Black and white are classic and never go out of style. Having these foundational pieces can help you stretch your wardrobe into several classic looks. Anything goes with black or white. Adding a dark blazer, vest, or cardigan to an outfit can have a slimming effect as well. Leaving it open, as shown below, creates a column of slimming colour. I also find that strategically placed graphics and darker art around the midriff can help flatten the look of the belly and accentuate the curves.
Florals continue to be very fashionable this season. They have graced the cover of many magazines. I love florals, particularly the Oscar de la Renta dresses. They are absolutely gorgeous and many are floral! Unfortunately, I don't own any Oscar de la Renta but I do own some Dream View florals. Let me know who your favourite designers are in the comments below.
Other popular styles are wrap dresses. They are forgiving, as you can easily tighten or loosen them as you like. Dress them up with a lacy camisole or chiffon scarf. My most popular style is the Kate reversible dress. It has art on one side and black on the other. You can wear it 4 ways. Art showing, black showing, V-neck in front, or V-neck in back. So versatile!
If you like a bit of cover on the legs, you will be happy to know longer lengths and maxis are back! They are so comfortable and super simple to style. Add a scarf and higher heels for a more formal look. Wear flatter sandals and a hat for a more casual vibe. If you prefer more shape, belt it with one of the knit belts or scarves.
We usually think of chiffon kimonos as great cover ups for the beach, pool, or cruise.
This season people are using these lightweight beauties to brighten any outfit.
Often seen worn over solid colour dresses or pant outfits, as seen here, to add an extra pop of WOW!
I think that is it for this season. If you want to know more about what is going on at Dream Views, consider signing up for the Dream Views newsletter. We promise not to fill your email with clutter.
